Criticisms And Challenges For Oakland Mayor

The mayor of Oakland faces increasing criticism as the city's crime rate and financial woes continue to mount. Mayor Ron Dellums, who served three decades as an East Bay congressman and headed the House Arms Services Committee, says he has limited powers and resources to deal with the city's problems. But critics have questioned the mayor's dedication to the job saying he appears uninvolved in the city's workings and communities. They also cite increases in Oakland's crime rate and economic development during Attorney General and former governor Jerry Brown's tenure as mayor. Dellums claims he is working hard behind the scenes and that it will take a collective effort to solve Oakland's problems. With: Bobby White.
