A Tribute to Don Barksdale

Bay Area basketball legend Don Barksdale is the subject of a new documentary to be screened at this year's Black Filmworks Festival of Film and Video Sponsored by the Black Filmmaker Hall of Fame, the work is entitled "Bounce: The Don Barksdale Story." It was produced by former professional basketball player Doug Harris. It comes at a time when Hollywood is feeling the pressure to portray more black characters and employ more black actors and craftspeople. Yet despite last year's high-profile wins by black members of the Film Academy, festivals such as the one in Oakland are often the only venue for black independent filmmakers, and for those wanting to see positive role models of African-Americans. With: Chauncey Bailey.

Airdate: October 4, 2002.
